Students show off new fashion at “It's a Fashion Affair”
Students were greeted Monday by a red carpet while entering the Black Student Association’s sixth annual fashion show, “It’s a Fashion Affair.”
More than 200 people attended the show and saw models, students from UTA and other universities, strutting along to upbeat music down a runway sporting eight different designers’ latest fashion designs.
Undeclared freshman Briuna Davis said this was her first time at the fashion show.
“I really enjoyed the show and will definitely be coming again,” she said. “I liked all the different types of clothes that were featured.”
The variety of clothing ranged from modern wear, including formal and business wear, to traditional Caribbean wear, like beaded bathing suits and head pieces.
Geo’s Collection designer George Killingsworth said he designs his clothes for them to be noticed by consumers.
“I want my clothes to be taken off the shelf immediately,” he said. “My designs range from casual to vogue for men and women, and that is what makes them different from others.
Children's Halloween costumes for pennies
My daughter wants to be a pirate, huh? OK. I've got a bandana somewhere around here. She's got an old skirt I've been meaning to donate to Good Will. I'll snip a few jagged edges around the bottom hem to make it look like it's been on countless pirate adventures. She can wear her own black boots. An old pillowcase will make a great thick belt. I've got a couple ruffled shirts I bought that I never wore. She can look through those and pick one out. And as for an eye patch, I think I'll buy one. Shiver me timbers! I just outfitted my pirate daughter for Halloween for about $2.There are plenty of other costumes you can make on the cheap. Of course, you always have the old standbys like a white sheet ghost. Or you can take that same sheet and cut it into strips for a mummy costume. Either one would be a hit. But what if you want something a little more daring?
How about a gumball machine? Have your child wear matching pants and a shirt. Get a large clear garbage bag and poke two leg holes in the bottom. Have your child put it on and fill it with blown up balloons of every color. If you want to get fancy, you can make a little pretend dispenser out of cardboard and attach it to the bottom. Sweet!
